As Southern Hemisphere Mining Limited prepares to begin a drilling program at their Llahuin Project in Chile, billionaire miner Robert Friedland has told the CRU World Copper Conference that copper is so crucial in electrifying the global economy that finding enough of it has become a national security issue.
“In the short term, we’ve had a big rise in the price of copper,” Friedland, founder and co-chairman of Ivanhoe Mines Ltd, was quoted on Bloomberg.com on Tuesday. “But for the medium term, copper has really become a national security issue. It’s central for what we want to do with our economy.”
Southern Hemisphere Mining’s current copper porphyry deposits at Llahuin sit -149mt @ 0.41% CuEq, and are scheduled to start their latest drilling program there this month, as the company seeks to expand their large copper gold resource in Chile.
Friedland added via Bloomberg: The world is yet to grasp the scale of disruption in replacing fossil fuels, with most people in urban areas unaware of where materials in everyday life come from.
