⚒️ Southern Hemisphere Mining Limited reports the discovery of high-grade oxide copper mineralisation exposed at surface during site preparation for the extensional drilling planned at the Ferro South prospect, part of the Company’s flagship Llahuin Copper-Gold-Molybdenum Project in central Chile.
During mechanical clearing of the planned drill pad, field crews uncovered a zone of strongly mineralised oxide copper occurring in outcrop and sub-crop. Visible minerals identified by the Chilean geologist on site include chrysocolla and atacamite, and other copper oxides occurring within fractured and altered host rock, consistent with a near-surface enrichment setting.
Preliminary field readings and geological logging indicate that the exposed material represents higher grade copper oxide mineralisation than previously mapped in the immediate area, reinforcing the Company’s interpretation that Ferro South hosts a robust near-surface copper system with potential for early-stage, low-strip mineralisation.
Southern Hemisphere Chairman, Mark Stowell commented:
“The discovery of high-grade oxide copper at surface, simply through clearing the drill pad, is a very encouraging development. It validates our targeting work at Ferro South and highlights the potential for shallow, easily accessible mineralisation within the broader Llahuin system. As we prepare to commence drilling, this find strengthens our confidence in the near-surface potential of the prospect and the broader opportunity at Llahuin.”
A sample of the rock was crushed and pulverised on site and read with the Vanta M series pXRF which gave a reading of 15% Cu (Figure 1). Note the pXRF is read on Geochem mode with 3 beams at 30 seconds for each beam.

Oxide Copper at Ferro South | Cautionary Statement: Visual estimates of mineral abundance should never be considered a proxy or substitute for laboratory analyses where concentrations or grades are the factor of principal economic interest. Visual estimates also potentially provide no information regarding impurities or deleterious physical properties relevant to valuations.

Samples from the exposed material have been collected and dispatched to the laboratory for assay, with results expected in the coming weeks.
The upcoming drill program at Ferro | South is designed to test:
- The strike and depth continuity of the oxide copper zone;
- Structural controls on mineralisation;
- Potential extensions connecting the Ferro South target to the larger Llahuin mineralised system and the <50ohm/ms MT anomaly to the west of Ferro South
The Company will provide further updates as assay results and drill progress become available.
