⚒️ Southern Hemisphere Mining Limited presents Breakaway Research’s Report on the Company, as released on their website in September 2026.
Titled “Finding Elephants in Elephant Country” the full report is below.
We are delighted to have initiated coverage of Southern Hemisphere Mining (ASX: SUH), which is an advanced Chilean copper exploration company with a sizeable existing Resource position.
Work at the company’s Llahuin Copper Project in Chile has highlighted the potential to expand the current 218.2 Mt Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE), as well as the discovery of new zones of porphyry copper mineralisation.
The Company has spent ~A$70 million on the Project, largely in drilling, with this reflected in the high confidence in the MRE – with ~70% in the Measured category and ~80% in the Measured and Indicated categories.
The most recent drilling has intersected mineralisation outside of the current MRE, highlighting the potential to increase resources – with the Company aiming to define a “mining inventory” of at least 300 Mt, enough to feed a conceptual 25-year, 12 Mtpa operation.
Further drilling has recently commenced at key 100%-owned targets to further test open areas of the mineralisation defined to date, with more drilling also planned on the high-risk/high-reward Curiosity target by the earn-in partners.
In addition to those areas currently being tested, the Project contains several other high-quality targets, included in the 262.7 Mt to 339.9 Mt Exploration Target that is additional to the MRE.
HIGHLIGHTS
-
Value upside: Southern Hemisphere is currently valued at a discount to peers, and we see significant value upside driven particularly by the exploration and resource upside potential to a size that would potentially support a technically and financially viable operation at Llahuin.
-
Straight forward projects: Llahuin is a straightforward porphyry project, with near surface, bulk minable, low strip mineralisation, very good metallurgical characteristics (even without optimisation work) and ready access to infrastructure and services. Likewise, Los Pumas enjoys the same advantages.
-
Well located – Llahuin is located at a low altitude in the Coastal Cordillera of Central Chile, just 375 km by road north of Santiago, and 8 km east of the El Espino development project, held 76.3% by Pucobre (market capitalisation of ~US$2.4 billion)..
-
Quality committed personnel: Personnel have extensive experience in the resources sector, and they hold some 13.6% of the shares, aligning their interests with those of other shareholders – all shares have been paid for, through placements and on-market buying.
-
Proven Mining Destination – Chile is a proven mining destination, and the world’s largest copper producer. As such it has a well-developed mining law, and ready access to relevant skills and services.
-
Further drilling commencing – The Company has recently commenced further drilling on the key porphyry resources,
